Chapter 1: A New Chapter Begins

As I compose my initial thoughts here on Medium at the age of 51, I find myself reflecting on the possibility of becoming a successful writer later in life, especially in a language that is not my native tongue.

I am currently navigating what feels like a "midlife crisis," though I wonder if this term truly applies to my situation. The catalyst for this introspection is recent life changes that I didn’t foresee.

A few months back, I was let go from my job. I was one of those individuals who resisted the mandatory health procedures for personal and health-related reasons. Unfortunately, my employer didn’t share my perspective, resulting in my dismissal.

Whether one agrees with these mandates or not, it is evident that they have created significant upheaval across Canada and likely beyond.

Not only did I experience job loss, but I also returned to Mexico, the country where I was born and spent my formative years. The reasons behind this decision are complex and will be discussed in a different article.

Life can shift dramatically in an instant; one moment, you are a successful Technology Program Lead, empowering countless Canadians with visual impairments to lead more independent lives, and the next, you are contemplating a new path as a writer. This journey begins with the very first words I am typing today.
