Exploring the Best Watch Bands for Apple Watch Ultra 2

Chapter 1: Overview of Watch Bands
In the past month, I’ve had the chance to wear my Apple Watch Ultra 2 and have expanded my minimalist collection of watch bands. After thorough testing, I've identified some favorites. If you're having trouble selecting the perfect band for your watch, this guide may assist you in making a more informed decision.
Alpine Loop
The Alpine Loop is a recent addition to my collection, as it came included with my Apple Watch Ultra 2. Initially, I was hesitant about the olive color due to how it looked in Apple's promotional materials. However, in person, it beautifully complements the titanium finish of the watch, making me appreciate it more.
Comfort-wise, I was pleasantly surprised. I've worn it in various settings—at work, during outdoor activities, while sleeping, and even in the shower. It truly is versatile. However, there are a few considerations:
- Adjustability can be a challenge; it requires a firm pull to fit the eyelets onto the clamp.
- If you use a MacBook, ensure the hook is the correct size to avoid scratches on its aluminum surface.
- I've noticed some stretching over time, which affects how snugly it fits. This occasionally impacts the heart rate sensor during cycling, as the watch tends to slide on my wrist.
In summary, the Alpine Loop is a comfortable all-around choice, albeit with some limitations in adjustability.
Trail Loop
Having used the Trail Loop for quite a while, including on my previous Apple Watch Series 7, it remains my top pick for comfort. This band is easily adjustable thanks to velcro, and it dries quickly after getting wet. It's especially great for overnight wear.
However, I recommend choosing your color wisely. I opted for the Black/Grey variant, introduced with the original Apple Watch Ultra. Unfortunately, the orange fabric has shown wear and stains quickly, which is disappointing.
In conclusion, while the Trail Loop is the most comfortable and flexible in terms of fit, it lacks durability over time.
Ocean Band
The Ocean Band is the latest addition to my collection, and I've worn it consistently since I got it. I chose the white variant, which contrasts nicely with the Apple Watch Ultra, enhancing its aesthetics.
As its name implies, the Ocean Band is ideal for aquatic activities (though I haven't used it for swimming yet, it has withstood showers). The elastomer material makes it easy to clean and quick to dry. However, it can be quite snug, leading to discomfort after prolonged wear. I often need to take it off to relieve pressure on my wrist.
One important note: the titanium clasps are situated at the wrist's bottom, which could potentially scratch your MacBook if you're using it at work.
In summary, while the Ocean Band is visually appealing, it sacrifices some comfort.
Leather Link Watch Band
The Leather Link is my go-to for formal business meetings. Its premium appearance pairs well with the Apple Watch Ultra 2 and offers a comfortable fit. However, it's not suited for everyday wear, as I avoid using it during showers or workouts, believing that leather isn’t ideal for those activities.
In summary, the Leather Link is perfect for business attire but not an all-purpose band.
Milanaise Watch Band
The Milanaise band used to be a favorite on my Apple Watch Series 7, but I've become wary of using it since acquiring a MacBook. The metal construction raises concerns about potential scratches.
This band is highly adjustable due to its strong magnets and is ideal for hot weather as it doesn’t trap sweat. It's also suitable for swimming or showering, but I prefer not to wear it overnight.
In conclusion, while the Milanaise band works well for the regular Apple Watch, it doesn’t quite suit the Ultra 2's design.
Future Watch Band Aspirations
I still have a few bands I'd like to try with my Apple Watch Ultra 2, particularly the newer releases:
- Blue Ocean Band: This shade looks fantastic and may be more versatile than the white variant.
- Fine Woven Link Bands: I'm curious about how these compare to the Leather Link in comfort and durability, especially the taupe version, which might complement the titanium finish of the Ultra 2.
- Blue/Black Trail Loop: Since the Trail Loop is the most comfortable, I'm eager to see if this newer dark color version addresses the discoloration issues I've faced.
