Stay Committed: The Importance of Seeing Projects Through

Written on

Chapter 1: The Common Struggle with Commitment

It's interesting how we often initiate numerous projects but rarely see them to completion. This isn't merely due to a lack of perseverance or an overwhelming number of tasks—though that is a frequent issue—but rather because we abandon our efforts before witnessing the results we desire.

Enduring the Initial Stages The key factor that distinguishes those who reach new heights of quality, creativity, and innovation is the duration they remain committed to their journey.

Consider the analogy of a bus departing from a station: all buses start from the same location and follow a similar route initially. Over time, however, they begin to diverge in different directions. Each time you embark on a new project, you are akin to a bus departing from the station, alongside others who are also starting their journeys.

The answer, then, is not to jump to a different project—or bus—at the first sign of stagnation or when you feel your work lacks uniqueness. Instead, the answer lies in staying on the bus.

Staying the Course You must remain committed long enough for genuine differentiation to occur, allowing the bus to take new routes. It is only by enduring the initial, often tedious phases that you can reach a point of distinction.

This principle holds true across all valuable aspects of life, whether it's nurturing a long-standing friendship or pursuing a venture. Only those willing to invest time and effort over the years will cultivate strong, meaningful relationships or achieve significant success.

As Oliver Burkeman, the author of Four Thousand Weeks, aptly notes: "Originality lies on the far side of unoriginality."

Chapter 2: Valuable Insights on Persistence

In the video titled "Advice for People Who Feel Like Their Art Isn't Unique," the speaker emphasizes the importance of self-acceptance and finding your unique voice in creativity. This perspective encourages individuals to embrace their journey without fear of comparison.

The second video, "Stay On The Bus (The Great North)," offers a narrative about commitment and the lessons learned from perseverance. It highlights how sticking with your path can lead to unexpected rewards and growth.
