Finding Peace Through Surrender: A Journey of Sobriety and Growth

Understanding Problem-Solving in the Journey
Do you ever wonder why your usual methods for tackling problems seem ineffective?
“Problems cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them.” – Albert Einstein
Experiencing Life in Active Addiction
Back in my days of battling alcoholism, I believed I possessed the answers to everything. This perspective led me to think I could solve major global issues, such as:
- World peace
- Poverty
- Health crises
- Substance abuse
- Crime
- Domestic violence
The list goes on, yet my solutions were merely a facade of intelligence.
Discovering Peace Through Spirituality
Through AA, I was introduced to spirituality. I learned that I was powerless over external circumstances, particularly after consuming alcohol (Step 1). The program revealed to me that a Higher Power, which I now refer to as God, is willing to offer guidance and wisdom if I seek it (Step 2).
Recognizing my limitations in Step 1 and the power of this Higher Power in Step 2 led me to Step 3: allowing Him to guide my actions.
In Conclusion: Embracing Simplicity
This program offers straightforward solutions for those of us with complex lives. When I seek simple answers, they tend to be the right ones, especially when I focus on doing the next right thing.
How can I be sure I’m on the right path? By engaging with the program to the best of my ability, without the burden of perfection. If something feels right, it likely is. Conversely, if I experience hesitation, it’s wise to reconsider my choices.
When faced with difficult decisions, I recite a condensed version of The Serenity Prayer: “God, help me.” Then, I step back and allow Him to lead the way. Thank you, God!
