Embrace Creativity: Overcoming 4 Harmful Mindsets
Written on
Chapter 1: The Journey to Creativity
After two years of dedicated effort, I can proudly say, "I am a writer." Initially, this felt like a stretch, but with over 200 posts under my belt, it's now a reality. To unlock your creative potential, you must be both courageous and persistent. Challenges will arise, and while it’s okay to express frustration, the key is to regroup and push forward each day.
Creativity may seem effortless, but cultivating a mindset that allows you to explore it can be challenging. Here are four mindsets I had to abandon to enhance my creative journey.
Section 1.1: Embrace FOMO
Creativity demands sacrifices; it cannot be confined to a rigid schedule. It’s an uncontrollable force, and inspiration may strike at unexpected moments. You could be enjoying a movie with friends or attending a family dinner when a brilliant idea emerges. To avoid losing it, you must step away from the fun and jot it down.
Don’t let the fear of missing out hinder your creative flow. Whenever inspiration hits, prioritize capturing that idea, even if it means stepping back from the social scene.

Section 1.2: Banish Negativity
Negativity stifles creativity and can rob you of your artistic brilliance. Maintaining an open mind is crucial for fostering creativity. A pessimistic outlook breeds judgment and a closed mindset, both of which can cripple your creative spirit and erode your self-confidence.
Negativity is a heavy burden that drains energy. To thrive in a creative field, you must cultivate self-belief and embrace positivity, driving your creative journey forward.
Subsection 1.2.1: The Stepping Stone to Success
Creativity is inherently subjective and often requires experimentation to discover what resonates. Embracing failure is essential for creative exploration. A fear of failure can prevent you from trying new things, limiting your growth.
Overcoming this fear allows you to engage in creative pursuits without restrictions. Don’t let perfectionism dictate your choices; instead, be willing to take risks and explore new avenues.
Chapter 2: Focus on the Process
Creativity is perceived differently by everyone. Even with your utmost effort, results may not always meet expectations. Concentrating solely on outcomes can dampen your enthusiasm and hinder productivity.
When faced with low appreciation for your work, remember that persistence is key. Commit to the process; consistency will lead to quality over time.

Conclusion: Building Your Creative Muscle
Think of creativity as a muscle—the more you exercise it, the stronger it becomes. While it can be disheartening to produce work that goes unrecognized, this is a necessary part of the growth process. Don’t allow your biases or mindset to impede your efforts. Combat procrastination and low motivation with a determined attitude.
Action is your best ally against anxiety. Take incremental steps toward your dreams, regardless of how small they may seem. Just do it!
