Easing the Writer's Frustration: A Path to Growth and Creativity
Written on
Chapter 1: Recognizing the Opportunity
When we find ourselves feeling anxious, it's easy to get caught up in that discomfort. However, we have a choice: we can see it as a chance for personal development or continue to dwell in our frustrations, potentially leading to actions that don't align with our true selves and aspirations. While I won't claim to have never succumbed to frustration, I genuinely prefer to focus on growth. Let's delve into my current frustrations.
This Week's Struggles
I observe many of you on Medium crafting stories almost daily. It's incredibly disheartening! I find it tough to produce content at that pace; often, it takes me a week or more to complete just one piece. Your talent is evident, and I admire it! I learn from your work and yearn for the time to refine my own skills so that I can also excel.
My mind is a whirlwind of ideas, continuously flowing. The challenge lies in capturing those thoughts before they vanish. With distractions surrounding me, moments of solitude are rare. Yet, at times, my ideas feel crystal clear, as if I’m on the brink of a breakthrough—until they vanish into thin air.

My frustration isn't directed at you; rather, you serve as a mirror reflecting my internal struggles. In the past, I've abandoned other creative endeavors due to this angst, but I refuse to give up on writing here. I genuinely enjoy this community. Now, let’s channel that energy into finding solutions to alleviate this frustration.
Finding Grace
Giving myself grace is essential. Balancing a full-time job with my writing pursuits means I must acknowledge my limitations. You, too, deserve to be kind to yourself.
Breaking the Comparison Habit
It's all too easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others, even when we know it’s counterproductive. We’re not in competition; everyone has their unique journey, progressing at their own pace. Instead of comparison, let’s celebrate the support within this community—it's truly beautiful.
Releasing Self-Imposed Pressure
Ironically, I joined Medium for its lack of pressure. So, let’s stop putting unnecessary pressure on ourselves! (This reminds me of a humorous skit by Bob Newhart, which you can check out below. Just remember to come back!)
Cultivating Patience
Growth takes time, and learning requires practice. As the saying goes, “Patience, young Jedi!” (Even if I’m a slightly older Jedi myself.)
Embracing Flexibility
I don’t need to adhere to a strict publishing schedule, nor do I have to produce lengthy articles every time. Flexibility is key, and you can embrace it too.
Setting Personal Guidelines
There are no hard and fast rules about what I write or how often, aside from those established by Medium and its publications. Reflect on any self-imposed constraints that may be hindering your creativity.
Creating Structure with Discipline
While it may seem contradictory, if I want to produce more niche content—which I do—I must be disciplined and carve out uninterrupted writing time. This doesn’t mean everything needs to be published immediately; it’s about forming a sustainable writing habit that allows for some flexibility.
To conclude, I’d like to share some affirmations. Feel free to recite them along with me:
- I am patient; I understand that learning and growth require time.
- I am persevering; to reach 100, I must start with just one.
- I possess grit; I won’t give up when challenges arise.
- I extend grace to myself; I embrace and love myself throughout this journey.
- I am a writer, a creator, and an uplifter, with much positivity to share.
So, dive back in, you resilient creator! Shifting focus to solutions feels empowering. If you too experience frustration, reach out, and I’ll be here to support you. And to those who inspire my frustrations, your wisdom is welcome; I truly value your contributions!
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Sending love to everyone.
