Abstract of the Post
The purpose of this article is to:
- Introduce the concept of automation
- Provide a general overview of automation
- Encourage readers to explore tools and understand their potential (see examples below)
This post primarily targets beginners in IT and automation (not software developers) and does not delve into specialized knowledge. More complex topics will be explored in future articles.
Motivation for Learning Automation
Learning a new tool or technique may require time and effort, but the benefits can be significant. Consider how automation can enhance your daily processes:
- Streamlining tasks in your routine or organization
- Saving time to focus on more important activities
- Potentially increasing your income through your newfound skills
I will periodically share insights on tools, techniques, processes, management strategies, lessons learned, and my experiences.
My Journey into Technology
My fascination with computers began at a young age when my father built a computer for me. By age five, I was already immersed in technology. A few years later, I received a ZX Spectrum with 48 KBytes of memory—an impressive feat at the time. Today, having a smartphone or PC is the norm.
My programming journey began with BASIC, inspired by Hollywood films. I envisioned my programs as exciting hacking scenarios, complete with urgent alerts!
Current Experience
With over 20 years in IT, my focus in the last six years has been on test automation and management within the automotive industry. This field is both challenging and enjoyable, as it allows me to integrate various tools, ideas, and processes into a cohesive system, significantly enhancing productivity and efficiency.
Exploring Automation in Daily Life
Getting started with automation is highly beneficial. Here are some areas where you can implement automation in your daily activities:
- Email Management (Beginner): Streamline your email routine. I recommend using Gmail, where you can create filters to automatically sort and manage your emails. Search for “rules to filter your emails” for guidance.
- User-Friendly Tools (Beginner to Intermediate): Find a tool within your organization to automate simple tasks—sorting, routine actions, and repetitive steps. Numerous options exist, depending on your situation and skill level. For example, consider using Power Automate, which offers a variety of free templates and tutorials.
- Programming Languages (Intermediate to Advanced): Delving into languages like Python or Excel VBA can expand your capabilities significantly. While mastering these languages requires time, ample free resources are available online.
- Diverse Tools (All Levels): An abundance of other tools, frameworks, and programming languages can cater to your specific tasks. Notable mentions include Java, C#, JavaScript, Postman, Selenium, Appium, Ranorex, and Jenkins.
