Clapping for the Joy of Reading: A Royal Perspective
Written on
The Royal Approach to Claps
In the realm of Medium posts, each reader has the opportunity to express appreciation with up to 50 claps by simply holding down the clap icon. I choose to grant 50 claps to every post I engage with. Allow me to elucidate my reasoning.
As a reader, I don't see myself as a judge or critic evaluating a competition. Instead, I immerse myself in reading to learn, discover, and enjoy. The 50 claps I offer are not mere markers on a test paper, nor do they represent the last of my resources. For every post that captivates me until the final word, I bestow 50 claps. If a piece fails to engage me, I simply move on. Yet, when a post compels me to read to the very end, the author certainly deserves some recognition. Why limit myself to a few claps when I can freely give all 50? I’m not one to hold back! (Just picture me as a king!)
When I encounter sentences or ideas that resonate with me, I like to highlight them. However, on my phone screen, that can be quite a challenge. If I’ve thoroughly enjoyed a post or wish to contribute my thoughts, I make it a point to leave a comment.
Some may perceive my reactions as over-the-top, but I wholeheartedly disagree. I am a passionate reader who relishes the exchange of ideas. Engaging with the thoughts of others is invigorating.
Section 1.1 The Impact of Claps
I recognize that my clapping and reactions influence the Medium algorithm. However, it seems impractical to pit various writing forms against each other—be it short stories, poetry, technical articles, DIY guides, or personal narratives. Each genre holds unique value for distinct audiences. Thus, if I find joy in a piece, it certainly merits my 50 claps.
Should my claps assist a post in reaching a broader audience, I am more than happy to contribute. Ultimately, I admit that I’m not great at keeping track of counts. I don’t have the luxury of time to tally which posts deserve which amount. Hence, I freely distribute my claps. After all, they don’t require earning!
Section 1.2 A Wish for My Readers
To my readers who leave me limited claps, I wish you all the best in your endeavors. May you receive tenfold the claps, comments, and highlights that you bestow upon me!
Now that you've journeyed this far, please accept my generous offering of claps. (Yes! They’re all yours!)
