Deepfakes and AI: Exploring the Future of Digital Manipulation
Written on
Chapter 1: The Disturbing Rise of Deepfakes
The internet is currently buzzing with a striking deepfake video that features a fabricated episode of a Joe Rogan podcast, where a supplement is promoted. This controversial clip has garnered over 13.7 million views on Twitter alone, and it appears to have been widely shared across various social media platforms.
EDIT: As of now, the video seems to have been removed from all platforms.
This incident provides a glimpse into the potential future of unethical marketing practices. In previous discussions, I've highlighted the risks that tools like ChatGPT pose in facilitating similar deceptive strategies for product promotion.
While the outlook may seem bleak, it’s crucial that these issues are brought to the forefront so we can engage in meaningful conversations and work toward effective solutions. For instance, implementing some form of cryptographic verification for authentic videos and podcasts—like those hosted by Joe Rogan—might be a reasonable approach.
Section 1.1: AI-Generated Backend Systems
There’s a fascinating tool available that allows users to describe a backend system in simple text and have it generated almost instantly, complete with documentation.
In my experience testing the provided backend examples, the results were largely satisfactory. However, when I attempted to create more complex and tailored APIs, I encountered internal server errors. Ultimately, I found the generated documentation to be more impressive than the backend itself.
While this tool offers an intriguing experiment, its practical applications seem limited for now.
Subsection 1.1.1: AI in Music Production
In a recent video, David Guetta shared insights on how he utilized AI technologies to replicate Eminem's voice for a new track.
This development points to significant advancements in music generation, as I’ve noted in earlier articles. As AI tools evolve, the landscape of music production is poised for transformation, though predicting the exact ramifications is challenging.
If creating music becomes more accessible, will we see an influx of new tracks flooding the market? Could this potentially dilute the value of each individual song?
My theory is that while emerging artists may find it harder to establish a name for themselves, established musicians are less likely to feel threatened due to their existing reputations.
Section 1.2: The Midjourney Prompt Generator
For those who frequently use Midjourney, I recommend trying out this free Hugging Face Space designed for prompt generation.
For instance, when I input "A spooky AI," I received a variety of options. Interestingly, I initially intended to write "A spooky deepfake," but it turned out to be a restricted phrase in Midjourney.
Though the suggestions can sometimes be nonsensical, this tool can be a great resource for brainstorming new ideas if you're unsure of what to type. In fact, the thumbnail for this article was created using one of the prompts generated by this tool.
Chapter 2: Innovations in AI and Their Implications
The New Bing, launched just last week, has showcased impressive applications of AI across various contexts. However, user testing has also revealed some notable shortcomings.
The first video, titled How Drake's Deep Fake SHOCKED THE WORLD! #shorts, explores the implications of deepfake technology through a cultural lens.
In the second video, EMO: The New AI That Really Shocked The Internet! This is why..., we delve into the surprising effects of emerging AI technologies on public perception and user engagement.
Thank you for taking the time to read this overview. Stay tuned for more insights in next week's edition.
