Three years ago, I eagerly signed up for a $30 monthly membership at Gold's Gym, which was available at all locations across the country.

However, for the last two years, I've been unable to set foot in any gym due to a whirlwind of life events—work commitments, moving, church activities, and my kids' schedules. You know how it goes!

Given this lack of attendance, I finally decided it was time to cancel my membership. Little did I know, this task would prove to be one of the most challenging endeavors I've faced—almost on par with jumping from a perfectly good airplane! Here’s how it went down:

  1. I visited the members' website to initiate cancellation.
  2. The website didn't offer an option to cancel.
  3. I ended up searching online for cancellation instructions, which pointed me back to the members' site—a frustrating loop!
  4. Next, I Googled the corporate office contact.
  5. After writing them a message and waiting for a response, I was told to revisit the members' website.
  6. I informed them I had already done that, and they promised to follow up in a few days.
  7. Eventually, they directed me to either email the cancellations department or call them.

Here’s a snippet from their response:

"Thank you for getting in touch! We regret to hear about your decision to cancel. As a member of a corporate Gold's Gym, please contact our Customer Care Center at 866–465–3775, select option 3 for account inquiries, enter your zip code to find your nearest gym, and then choose option 1 to proceed with cancellation. Alternatively, you can email the customer care team at [email protected] or reach out to your local gym for support."

Trust me, the process was anything but straightforward! I attempted the call multiple times but faced constant dead ends with the zip code entry. I even sent an email to the cancellation team—still no reply!

Frustrated, I called again, bypassing the zip code entry, which connected me to my local Gold's Gym. The receptionist informed me that I needed to visit the front desk to cancel. I could have sworn I had already done that!

So, here I am, on my way to the local Gold's Gym once again… wish me luck!

Oh, and just to clarify, I haven't undergone gallbladder surgery; I've only heard it's quite the ordeal!
